Mimpi Manis
installation & performance at Field Day
Hong Lim Park, Singapore
May 2016
"Mimpi Manis", meaning sweet dreams in Malay, invites people to take a rest in a green field also the freest place in Singapore- the only place one can legally protest with a permit. Pitched at Hong Lim Park is a bed installation incorporating paraphernalia acting as semiotics for local culture, including fragrant pandan bouquets, a soundscape very slowly chanting one ministerial quote about art, a patchwork blanket hand sewn by elderly ladies at a seniors’ activity centre in Ang Mo Kio, and a space age table bought for $10 from then at-risk (now defunct) Sungei Road Thieves’ Market. People are also invited to sit and watch the sleeper of the moment.
"Art per se is not an issue if you get approval"
